Animated Film Strip

First I want to thank Jim Warren for allowing me to use his beautiful Digital Graphic of Island Dreams. Do visit Jim's Website.

The idea for this came from me playing with the Original Film Strip Tag Tutorial. I had used a different Graphic, and have received many people asking how I animated it. So in answer to all of you here is the tutorial so you can accomplish it too.

This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 8 and Animation Shop, and assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and Animation Shop. There are NO outside filters used on this tutorial. I am sure this can easily be done in other versions with a few adjustments. Tutorial was written on July 30, 2004.

My tutorials are only guidelines to help you accomplish a certain creation. Please feel free to be inventive and take whatever liberties you would like. I hope each of you enjoy this tutorial. Your finished creation is yours to do with as you please, other than make a profit from it.

What you will need for this tutorial:

Jasc Paint Shop Pro HERE PSP Version 8 Demo

Supplies HERE zipped and in its own Folder. Place the tubes and graphic in a Folder of your choice, so it is available to open in PSP with the browser.

IMPORTANT: Before I start I need you to read this, as what I am saying is going to help you achieve the best looking waterfall animation that you can. Pay very close attention when I have you rename a layer, or move a layer. I have provided lots of Screen Shots to help you along the way. In this Graphic, or a different one if you prefer, please make your selections in an Up and Down directions, so you get a good water flow....a sideways selection in most occasions will only make your animation jump around. The only exception I can tell you now is that when you are working at the base of a waterfall, and you want it to look as if it is splashing up and down. When you make a selection stay within the light areas, and avoid dark ones, as it will not give you a good effect. When you are selecting water that is to go thru the holes of the film be careful to stay well within the hole you are going thru, or this too will make it look jumpy. Don't rush thru the tutorial, as some parts seem a little tedious, but is well worth it when you see your final result. It is a bit long until you have all your selections made, and are prepared for Animation Shop. Now with that behind us..whew.... LOL lets begin.
