I created this tutorial, because I have always wanted to make one of
these, but now due to my hands, I am not able to fulfill this dream
in real life, so I decided to try in PSP. I am quite pleased with the
results. It seems that PSP rarely disappoints me, when I take the time
to play. So here is my lesson on making your own. I truly hope this
helps you achieve your dream to make one too.
This is my creation, any similarity to other tutorials on the Internet
is unintentional.
Please do not copy or place this tutorial or any graphics to any other
place without written permission directly from me. Thank You
My tutorials are only guidelines to help you accomplish a certain creation.
Please feel free to be inventive and take whatever liberties you would
like. I hope each of you enjoy this tutorial. Your finished creation
is yours to do with as you please.
Screen shots are resized and for faster loading. Don't forget to SAVE
your work often.
This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7.04 and assumes you
have a good working knowledge of PSP. I am sure this can easily be done
in other versions with a few adjustments.
You will need the following:
Paint Shop Pro 30 Day Free Trial HERE
PSP V8 Demo
I have placed all the tiles and tubes in a folder for
your convenience. Once you unzip you can simply place this folder into
the area you store your PSP tutorials.
Well grab the bifocals, magnifying glass, long neck tweezers, and a
steady hand, cause here we go....off to create. Well, we are doing it
the easy way, so just fire up your PSP...hahahaha
PLEASE SAVE OFTEN.... I will NOT be reminding you this
time....it's time you learn this process, for all your future tutorial
work. When you complete a step....always do a "SAVE" get in
the habit, so you don't have to start over.
Open up your wood tile (seamless) which, by the way, is how to eliminate
those lines when you try to flood fill with wood..hint, hint.
Open your Cork Tile, the Bottle Tube, and Clipper Ship Tube, in PSP.
Minimize everything EXCEPT the Bottle Tube.
Now Save your work to your folder as "Ship In Bottle IN PROCESS"
in psp format.
Even though I have made this Bottle Tube, I am teaching you how to highlight
and do a reverse selection to make your cork. So you will have to work
on this tut, although not like I did trying to make the bottle.......*S*
1. Add a new Raster Layer, call it "Bottle Bottom"
With your Preset Shapes Tool, set to Ellipse
Background Color....C0C0C0......Foreground NULL
Antialias CHECKED
Place your cursor at the TOP LEFT corner of the bottle.. and drag
down to the bottom of bottle edge, then to the right a little. (if you
are using your rulers, it will be 49 on Top and drag Down and to the
RIGHT to 55 on the TOP ruler.)
Select/Select All
Select/Float
Effects/3D Effects/CutOut....see Screen Shot for settings.
Select/Select None
Lower Opacity to 85% and Drag this layer BELOW Bottle Layer
2. Activate Bottle on Layer Palette
Add new Raster Layer call it "Highlights"
With Draw Tool
Point to Point
Foreground Color_White..Background_NULL
Antialias CHECKED
Line with_5.....
Click along the top edge of bottle and follow the curve
on the top of bottle. See Screen Shot
Effects/Blur/Gaussian Blur..... 4.0
Add New Raster Layer call it "Highlights 2"
Go across the Neck Oval and STOP the Point to Point here.
Then START Point to Point again going across the straight
neck portion, staying on the same layer.
Now apply the same Gaussian Blur
Turn OFF...Layer 1 and Bottle Bottom.... Layers/Merge/Merge Visible...Rename
"BOTTLE"
3. I am Teaching you how to do a reverse selection here, so even
though it may seem awkward, it is good to know how to do this.
It will come in very handy for your future of writing tutorials with
selections....LOL
With Magic Wand set to Tolerance and Feather both on zero
_0_ click on the background to select the bottle.
Selection/Modify/Expand by...5...pixels
Add a New Raster Layer...name it "Cork"
Now using your Selection Tool
Set on Rectangle
Feather _ 0
Antialias CHECKED
Holding DOWN the Shift Key, and moving your Cursor from the
RIGHT to LEFT, STARTING in alignment with the Flat portion of
neck of bottle and including the height of the bottle. It is easier
if you use your rulers here. (Rulers...TOP 430 and 50 SIDE, and
dragging DOWN to include the whole bottle.
Selections/Invert. See Screen Shot
4. With Flood Fill Tool, Set to
Foreground Color set to Style/Pattern/Cork Tile
Scale 50%
Angle_0
Flood Fill your selection
Select/Select None
5. Because our Cork has one square and one rounded corner, due
to the bottle selection, I'm going to teach you how to eliminate this
without a lot of work.
Go to Image/Mirror and with your Mover Tool, POSITION it back
into the neck of bottle...(now it doesn't show...LOL....)
On Layer Palette, drag your Cork layer BELOW Bottle layer.
6. Activate Bottle Layer (Top layer)
Add a New Raster Layer call it "Stand"
With Preset Shapes Tool Set to:
Rounded Rectangle
Color Palette: Style Background/Pattern/Oak Wood Seamless
Foreground NULL
Antialias CHECKED
Angle _ 265_ 100%
Draw a long Rectangle under Bottle
Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel/Frame Preset
Select/Select None....see Screen Shot below Step 7 for position.
7. Add a New Raster Layer call it "Stand 2"
With Preset Shape and same settings and pattern EXCEPT changing
your ANGLE on the Wood to zero _0_
Apply preset shape.
Select/Select ALL
Select/Float
Apply same Inner Bevel.
Select/None............see Screen Shot for placement on step 6 and 7.
Image/Resize 75% with all layers UNCHECKED
Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen
8. Duplicate Stand 2 Layer.
Image/Mirror
With your Mover Tool place at the bottom area, and make any
adjustments for an even appearance.
9. Activate Bottle Layer
Activate Clipper Ship Tube.
Edit/Copy
Edit/Paste to your working window as "As New Layer"
With your Mover Tool, move the Ship Tube down and left, so the ship
looks like it is resting on the bottom of the glass bottle.
Rename Layer 7 "Clipper Ship" and drag below Bottle Layer.
Effects/Blur/Gaussin Blur_.52, so it appears to be behind glass.
***IMPORTANT READ THOROUGHLY BEFORE PROCEEDING***
If you need to reposition your Clipper Ship after this TURN OFF the
Bottle
layer, so you won't move the glass bottle by accident.
NOW, you need to decide on your Background Color to Flood Fill Layer
1. It will depend on your choice of color or texture, whether you will
need to adjust the BOTTLE BOTTOM Opacity. This is why we haven't merged
it into our layer yet. You may want to make another one with a different
color, or background, and it is important that the bottle bottom is
only an illusion, and will change with your color choice here.
10. Duplicate your window...SHIFT+ D
We will finish the graphic on a copy, so you have your IN PROCESS
for you new creation.
Flood Fill your Layer 1 with your choice.
Add a drop shadow, of effects you wish, your watermark/signature
Image/Resize for you group requirements
Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen.
Well, you have done it....
You finally have your Ship In a Bottle....S*
I'm so proud of you...... It wasn't too hard, now was it???
I really hope you have enjoyed this tutorial, and I'm ready to start
another this week...*S
