Roses Lace and Pearls Background

This is my own creation, and any similarity to any other tutorial on the Internet, is unintentional. I would like to give a special THANK YOU to Patti of Moonsdesigns for the encouragement to write this tutorial, after she saw a sample I made. I am a lover of lace and flowers, and was trying to create a background for a friend, and this tutorial was born. I sincerely hope you enjoy this tutorial and find many uses for it.

This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7.04 and assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP. I am sure this can easily be done in other versions with a few adjustments.

You will need the following:
Paint Shop Pro 30 Day Free Trial HERE PSP V8 Demo

Hankie Tube zip....HERE

Flower Tube HERE

20/20 Plugin... No longer available The Demo of Fantastic Machines, Tile Tools has a Seamless Tiling Download HERE

Put the FM Tile Tools in your Plugin folder. PSP8 and 9 have seamless tiling.

If you have all your items installed and unzipped, shall we begin? I am so excited for you to create this with your own flowers and colors.

1. Open a new Image 400 X 400 ....Transparent
Add a new Raster layer, and Flood Fill with color of your
choice. I used...#CBBEBD.

2. Open your Hankie tube in PSP.
Edit Copy
Edit Paste "As a New Layer" to your Flood Filled Window...
Rename "Hankie"

3. Add a new Raster layer....name it "Flower 1"...or your flower name.
Select the flower of your choice, I suggest a light colored one to
achieve the same look I am showing, from your Picture Tube Tool.
Size will depend on your individual flower.
Apply your flower in this layer.

4. Add a new Raster layer....name it "Flower 2"...or your flower name.
You may also use the same flower as before, by going to the layer
palette, and duplicating that layer, then resize, mirror, or flip your
flower. You can also colorize, or adjust with Color/Brightness...or
Color/Adjust/Hue Saturation. This is an individual thing, so I can
only give you the suggestions.
I suggest 3 flowers, each on a SEPERATE LAYER and/or buds....but this is your creation...I am only directing you on the "How To".
When placing your flowers try to arrange them so your flowers look as
if they are laying in the curves of the hankie. See Screen Shot

5. Add a New Raster layer....name it "Pearl 1"
Select your favorite pearl or gem....I used my pearl at 50% for size.
Place ONE pearl on this layer.
Edit/Copy
Edit/Paste as NEW SELECTION. I find my Precious Cursor works
best to see the placement here.
Now use CTRL+E....to add new Pearls, and place in position for
the string of pearls. Try to make gentle curves again following the
curve in the hankie. My first pearl was placed over the stem of the
center Rose and ended at the edge of the center Rose side.
See Screen Shot.

6. Activate your Hankie Layer.
Add a new Raster Layer...name it "Pearl 2"
Place ONE pearl or gem on layer.
Edit/Copy
Edit/Paste "As NEW SELECTION, and use CTRL+E to add
more pearls or gems.
I wanted my Pearls to wrap around the Hankie, so added 7 pearls on
this layer, then added a NEW Layer, BELOW the Hankie Layer, and
added 4 more pearls....SEE Screen Shot

7. Activate your Hankie Layer on layer palette.
Add new Raster layer...name it "Pearl 4"
Add ONE pearl or gem.
Edit/Copy
Edit/Paste "As New SELECTION" using CTRL+E to complete
your string of pearls strand.

HERE ARE SOME OPTIONS NOW, FOR YOUR IMAGE.
To use all options, simply use Shift+D on your image for each option
1. Option: Go to Layers Merge/Merge All Flatten and frame.
2. Option: Mute our Image, by lowering opacity.
On EACH flower layer, lower the opacity, depending on your color choice. With mine being cream I lowered to 86%

On EACH pearl layer lower opacity to equal setting, EXCEPT Pearl 1, which should be more visible. I used 74% and 80%

On Hankie Layer, lower opacity to 59%, depending on your background color of choice.
Now Delete Layer 1
Turn OFF Layer 2, your background color layer.
Layers/Merge/Merge VISIBLE.
If you still want it muted more, lower the opacity on the merged layer.....I lowered mine to 91%
Effects/Blur/Gaussin Blur....( .62)
See Screen Shot

3. Option: Make your background Muted and Seamless in 20/20
The background on this page is the Muted/Seamless Tile.
Layers/Merge/Merge All Flatten..
Edit/Copy
Minimize PSP
Open 20/20 usually from Shortcut on Desktop.
Paste From Clipboard
Image/Muted
See Screen Shot
Go to top Menu/File...."Save As" and name your background, also entering the type of file in window....(jpeg)

4. Final Option...to make a 800 X 800 background tile.
Layers/Merge/Merge All Flatten
Image/Resize...to 200% with resize all layers.....CHECKED.
Maintain Ratio aspect CHECKED.
File/Save As, and name your background.

I have tried to give you all the options I could, for use of this tutorial. I sincerely hope that one or more of them is to your liking. I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial, and find it useful.
I really enjoy creating beauty and elegance with PSP, and this tutorial has brought me so much pleasure, I'm glad I can share it with you.........*S*....patao
