Filmstrip Template Tag
I got the idea for this tutorial after seeing some lovely tags, with a film effect on them. After learning how they were made, and not being able to afford the software, I decided to make this tutorial for those of us that are on a fixed income. My tutorials are only guidelines to help you accomplish a certain creation. Please feel free to be inventive and take whatever liberties you would like. I hope each of you enjoy this tutorial. Your finished creation is yours to do with as you please, other than make a profit from it. Tutorial was written on July 27, 2004 This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 8 and assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP. I am sure this can easily be done in other versions with a few adjustments. Supplies you will need: Jasc Paint Shop Pro HERE PSP Version 8 Demo Supplies HERE zipped and in its own Folder. Place in your Tutorial Folders for easy access. I have provided the Font, Hydrangea.jeg, and 3 Tubes. Unzip and place them in a folder of your choice. The font does not have to be installed in Window, you can simply open it and minimize. When you open PSP it will be available when needed. 1. Open PSP and with your Browser find the folder where you supplies are and open them all and Minimize for now. 2. Open a new transparent 500X500 image. 3. Select the Filmstrip Tube that is minimized and restore it. Edit/Copy close the tube out. Edit/Paste "As New Layer." 4. With your Magic Wand Tool click in the first large square, and holding down your SHIFT select the rest of the squares on the strip. Selection/Modify/Expand by 2. Add a New Raster Layer BELOW the film strip. Restore the Hydrangea Graphic and Edit/Copy and minimize again. Edit/Paste "INTO SELECTION". On layer palette turn OFF Raster Layer 1 and Layer/Merge/Merge Visible then rename it "Film Strip" Select/Select None. 5. Restore the Film Strip Single Tube. Edit/Copy and close it out. Edit Paste "As New Layer". I moved mine over and up a little for a good view. With your Magic Wand Tool, select the middle of large square. Selections/Modify/Expand by 2. Select the Film Strip layer and add a New Raster Layer. (below the Film Strip) Turn OFF the Film Strip Layer. Restore your Hydrangea Graphic Edit/Copy and close out. Edit/Paste "Into Selection". Layers/Merge/Merge Visible. 6.On Layer Palette make Raster 1 Layer active (or highlight it) Restore the Woman_Filmstrip Tube. Edit/Copy and close out. Edit/Paste "As New Layer". 7. For now CLOSE the VIEW of Single Frame Layer. Turn ON the Film Strip Layer. Move the Woman tube into a position that you like. 8. With the Freehand Tool Set on: Point to Point, Mode: Replacer, Feather: 0, Smoothing: 0, Anti-alias CHECKED. Lower the Opacity to 50% on Film Strip Layer. Select her RIGHT Leg that is behind the Film Strip layer, by clicking along the edge being careful not to remove any past the outside of her Leg. Use your Zoom option if you need too. See Screen Shot below for example.
On you Keyboard select DELETE, or click on the Scissors on the top menu. To check the area, turn OFF the Woman Tube on the Layer Palette. If you missed any pixels select them and remove them. Turn Woman Tube Layer back ON. I noticed that the tube seems a little blurry, so I'll share a little trick with you. (On the top Menu, Adjust/Brightness and Contrast/Clarify set to 2. This works very good when a sharpen would be too much..... :) ) 9. Highlight Raster 1 layer, and ADD a New Raster Layer and with your Preset Shapes Tool Setting:
Set you Foreground Color to BLACK, Background to None. Shape Rectangle. Draw out a shape of approx. Width of 100 and Height of 300. Put your cursor on the rotate handle and Rotate to the Right a little. See Screen Shot below:
Deselect and on the Layer Palette RIGHT click and Convert to Raster Layer. 10. With your Magic Want Tool, Click inside of Rectangle. Selections/Modify/Expand by 2. Select Layer 2 and Flood Fill with Color. I used E5B6D8. Select/Select None. Layer/Merge/Merge Visible and rename "Rectangle". 11. Activate or Highlight Top Layer. Now lets make all 3 Layers Visible. Move them around until you like the positions. Just be sure you have room for you name at the bottom of her shoes. 12. Select your Text Tool Setting: Create as Vector, Font: VocoScriptSSK, Size: 90, Anti-alias CHECKED, Color: Black Fill, Stroke: None, Bold. Type in your name or words and Apply. You can do any adjusting or moving when still in Vector mode. When you like the placement go to the Layer Palette and "Convert to Raster Layer". 13. Lets add an Inner Bevel now to the text. See Screen Shot Below for my favorite settings.
14. You can now put a Drop Shadow on any of the layers you want. I did one on the Woman Strip Layer. I knew I was going to use a White Background. I don't recommend using a Drop Shadow if you are making this as a transparent .gif. 15. Activate Raster Layer 1 at bottom and Flood Fill with White, or color of your choice, or nothing for transparent. Layer/Merge/Merge All (Flatten) or Merge/Merge Visible for .gif. Crop to size, and or resize to your liking. I hope your have enjoy the tutorial, and have lots of fun with the tubes I've provided for other tags.
I have done another version while playing around. I hope you like this one too....:)
I'd like to give a great big THANK YOU, to my testers
