My Favorite Beeper

I wrote this tutorial after numerous request from friends that had seen my tag.....*S* and after making several, its seems time to do this tutorial.
It requires a good working knowledge of PSP and Animations Shop.

My tutorials are only guidelines to help you accomplish a certain creation. Please feel free to be inventive and take whatever liberties you would like. I hope each of you enjoy this tutorial. Your finished creation is yours to do with as you please.

This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7.04 and assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and Animation Shop. I am sure this can easily be done in other versions with a few adjustments.

Supplies you will need:

Jasc Paint Shop Pro HERE PSP Version 8 Demo

Supplies HERE NOT zipped. Place in your Folder for easy access.

Flaming Pear SuperBladePro HERE Demo

***It has been called to my attention that the little Red Horns, are not available if you are using PSP8, thru the Objects 2 from PSP 7. I have therefore made a .jsl of them for V8 users. Place the jsl in your MyPSP8 Files, Preset Shape Folder. Then be sure your V8 Preferences File Locations are pointing to that folder. HERE

If you have gathered all your goodies, let begin playing.... :) Remember to SAVE OFTEN.

1. Open the Beeper Tube in PSP, Duplicate and close the Original.

2. Save your New Image 1 as "Beeper In Process."

3. Add a new transparent layer, and name it Deco 1. NOTE all your text, Deco's, Colors and sizes are your choice. I am providing only how I did it, so some things will be different than mine.

Select your Text Tool, Arial, White, Size 10 Bold, Floating. Decide the name of your Beeper. Mine is a Cross with Almighty. Line up the wording toward the top left of your Beeper.

Effects/Plugins/SuperBladePro/Gold-Glitter preset. Or your favorite Gold if your don't have this particular one.

Deselect and add a Drop Shadow Vertical 1/Horizontal 1/Opacity 100/Color Black/Blur 1. This will be the same when I say Drop Shadow in the future. Align your name if necessary. Save

4. Add a new transparent layer, and name it Deco 2.

Activate your Preset Shapes Tool and Use Arrow 27 (see Screen Shot below), with the color White Fill, NO stroke. Antialias checked. Place 1 Arrow below the green screen. Select/Select All. Select/Float

Effects/Plugins/SuperBladePro/Gold-Glitter preset. Effects/3D Effect/InnerBevel Frame Preset. Effect/Sharpen/Sharpen. Effect/3D Effect Drop Shadow Same as before. Save

5. Duplicate Deco 2 layer. Activate Copy of Deco 2 layer, Image/Mirror and with the Mover Tool, Adjust your 2 arrows, staying within the left half of the Beeper area. Save

6. Duplicate Copy of Deco 2 again. Image/Rotate 90 Degrees Right, All Layers UNchecked. Effects Sharpen/Sharpen. Duplicate Deco 2 layer again. Image/Flip Effects Sharpen/Sharpen .Use Mover Tool to adjust. Below Screen Shots shows what you should have now.Save

7. Turn OFF the following layers: Beeper_patao, Deco 1. Layers/Merge/Merge Visible. Right click on Merged layer and Rename Arrows.

8. Add a new transparent layer and name it Horns

Activate your Preset Shapes Tool. Scroll down and Select the Red Horns, Retain Style checked. Draw out a small set of horns to the Right of Arrow points Right below Green Message Screen. You can adjust it after made with Mover Tool. Save

9. Add a new transparent layer and name it Pearl or Gem.

With your Tube Tool, select your Favorite Pearl or Gem and place to the Right of the Red Horns. Save

10. Turn OFF the Following Layers: Beeper_Patao, Deco 1, Arrows. Top Menu/Layers/Merge/MergeVisible and Rename Deco 3

11. Add a New Transparent Layer and name it Deco 4.

With your Text Tool, Color White Fill, Arial Size 10, No Stroke, Bold/ Floating, type the words DOWN 3 spaces between then UP, this should line it up with your Horns and Gem.

Effect/Plugins/SuperBladePro/Gold-Glitter. Effect/Sharpen/Sharpen. Effect Drop Shadow as before. With Mover tool align your wording. Save

12. Add a New Transparent Layer and name it TEXT.

With your Test Tool, Color Black, Fill, Arial Size 8, No Stroke, Bold Floating. ( the size of font here depends upon the length of text you are using.) Using your Zoom option bring the window in so you can see well. You will be selecting each letter separately and promoting it to a layer.

With Selection Tool, set to Rectangle place marching ants around the Under Score. Left Click on the Underscore which puts the marching ants tightly are the selection. Layer/Promote to Layer. Rename the Promoted layer "Under Score"

You will be doing this with each letter starting from the Left and continuing on to the Right until all letters are on their own layers. To keep down the confusion I suggest that you rename each promoted layer and keep them in sequence from Bottom to Top for convenience when saving for Animation Shop. Save

13. Activate the TEXT Layer and choose the next letter moving Left to Right. A second option for selecting the Letters is to use your Lasso Tool going carefully in between the next two letters, then Left Click to bring the selection around the letter. See Screen Shot below:

14. Once your have promoted each Letter to its own layer, its a good idea to check each letter, layer by layer for any of the nasty little stray pixels that may have snuck in there on you. You can just use your Eraser Tool set small on those. If you have difficulty finding them use your Mover tool, Zoom in on them and with your mover tool click your mouse on it. It will immediately activate the layer it is really on.

15. Lets do our SaveAs for Animation Shop now.

The following layers will be Left On: Beeper_patao, Deco 1, Arrows, Deco 2, Deco 3.

Turn OFF all other layers, which should be your individual layers of Letters.

Save As Beeper 1 / Turn on the Underscore and Save As Beeper 2/ I repeated this step 7 times, to make the Underscore Blink on and Off. Doing a Save as after each one... Beeper 3 thru Beeper 6 for the Save As. On your next Save As, lets start bringing in your Letters. My next Save As is Underscore and J doing my Save As 7, continue until you reach the end of your wording.. I ended up with 20 Layers to create the animation as seen on the top of this Tutorial.

16. Now lets open Animation Shop. Lets set up your Preferences so you never have to Merge an Animation again.

17. Use your Animation Wizard as follows.

Load all your saves mine were 1 thru 20.

You Animation is now open in the main frame. With each frame numbered with the Frame number and second the Frame Speed. Go to your last Frame, using the scroll on the bottom of your Animation frames. Select the last frame/Right Click on the window/Properties/Changing it from 15 to 80 This allows the whole word to stay on the screen longer for your viewers to read. Select VIEW animation on the top menu, to check it for speeds so you can make changes prior to saving. When you are satisfied go to the Top Menu/Files/Save As and browse to the Folder of your Choice.

This window will then appear and we want to Customize our OutPut, so we don't have little jaggies of black or another color along the edges of your finished animation.

Which Brings us back to our Save As, by placing it in the folder of your choice. Now your Optimization wizard takes over the you do Next, Next, Next and Finish. You are DONE........wheee......wasn't that fun.

I hope you enjoy your new Beeper, and find many uses for it.... thanks for trying my tutorial........ Patao
