your work often.
This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7.04
and assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and Animation Shop.
I am sure this can easily be done with other versions, with a few adjustments.
Supplies you will need:
Jasc Paint Shop Pro8
as a demo HERE
Zip of Tube and 1 Seamless
Tile HERE
The tube of SaintNick24 is provided by Judy.
Thank you so much Judy. I have removeded the drop shadow, so beginners can also do this tutorial.
Now that you have all your supplies,
lets begin. When working with exact selections I always set my cursor
to PRECISE, as it is a lot easier. Remember to SAVE OFTEN.
1. Open the Saintnick24 tube in PSP.
Duplicate and close the original tube. Now I suggest that you do a
new "Save As" to a Folder for your Animation. I called mine
"Santa Snore"
2. Using your Zoom tool at 2:1 or until you can see the tube well
for selecting areas to animate.
3. With you Lasso set to "Point to Point" - Feather 0 -
Antialias checked
A. Select the Angels Hand on Santa's head See Screen
Shot below
Selections/Promote to Layer. Select/Select None. Rename "Hand"
B.Activate Layer 1 on Layer Palette. Select Santa's mouth and
part of beard. See Screen Shot Below.

Selections/Promote to Layer. Select/Select None.
Rename Mouth.
C. Activate Layer 1. Select Tummy and part of Beard,
see Screen Shot Below.

Selection/Promote to Layer. Select/Select None.
Rename, Tummy.
D. Activate Layer 1. Select his Right foot. See
Screen Shot below

This will be a little different, after selecting
the foot, and with you Magic Wand click your on the foot to float
it. Selection/Promote to Layer. This removes the foot from the
original Tube to its own layer.. Select/Select None. Rename, Foot.
Duplicate this layer.
4. Now we need to fine tune our parts for animation. HINT: When
you have completed a correction you can check what the animation
will look like by turning the layer on and off on the layer palette.
With Hand layer active, Image/Rotate LEFT 35 degrees, All Layers
UNCHECKED. With mover tool slide the hand right a little, matching
at sleeve. With your Paint Brush, for settings see Screen Shot
Below.

Paint in a few pixels to cover the flesh area you
can see. I used AEB0AB for the gray and 757671 for the Green.
This gives it definition. If yours looks jaggy use your Smudge
Tool on it.
5. Activate Mouth Layer. Move the mouth up and a little left. With
your Paint Brush, changing size to 3 and Color 5E5E5E, place paint
over lips.
6. Activate Tummy Layer. Move up and Left. Check Belt for alignment.
I didn't need to do any extra pixels on this layer, but if you do
use your Eye Dropper for color match of the area of correction.
7. Activate Copy of Foot Layer and Rename SOCK. Duplicate and Rename
FOOT UP. Stay on same layer and Image/Rotate 35 Degrees RIGHT. This
is a little tricky so follow along close. Go around outside area
of foot, Activate SOCK Layer.See Screen Shot Below.

Now click on your Scissors, or Delete Key. If you turn off the
Foot Layer you will see that the area is gone, but leaves the
sock portion. Select/Select None.
8. We need a background on this, as there are still some dark edges,
so it will not make a good transparent .gif.
Activate Layer 1 and rename Santa Tube. Add a new Layer and name
it background. Drag this layer below Santa to the bottom. Flood
Fill with color of your choice, or use the GreenSwirlSeamless
Tile I provided.
9. Add a new Layer and name it Frame. Selections/Select All. Selections/Modify/Contract
by 10 pixels. Selections/Invert and Flood Fill with color. I used
571B23, matching pants. Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel/Pillow. See
Screen Shot of Settings if you don't have it saved.

Layers/Arrange/Brings to Top. Add your Signature or Watermark.
10. Now lets Save for Animation Shop.
Layers ON: Frame, Foot, Santa Tube,
Background.
Layers OFF: Hand, Mouth, Tummy,
Foot Up, Sock. SAVE AS, "SantaSnore1".
11. Layers ON: Frame, Hand, Tummy,
Foot, Santa Tube, Background
Layers OFF: Mouth, Foot Up, Sock.
SAVE AS, "SantaSnore 2"
12. Layers ON: Frame, Mouth, Foot
Up, Sock, Santa Tube, Background.
Layers OFF: Hand, Tummy, Foot. SAVE
AS, "SantaSnore 3"
13. Layers ON: Frame,
Sock, Foot, Santa Tube, Background.
Layers OFF: Hand, Mouth,
Tummy, Foot Up. SAVE AS, "SantaSnore 4"
14. Open Animation Shop and be sure your preference
are set as in Screen Shot Below.
Using the Wizard, following the Screen Shots
in order as shown.
Select NEXT and your Animation Shop will
load your frames.
To View your animation select the View Animation
Icon.
When you are satisfied with your work simply
do your "SaveAs" to folder of your choice.
CONGRATULATIONS, I knew you could do it.... :)
I'd like to thank Billy and Fern for helping me get this
tutorial revised.
